Maine Pine Log Homes

About Maine Pine Log Homes

My father was a home improvement contractor...We realize we're not the only company claiming to make the most complete building packages in the log home industry. That's why we encourage you to ask hard questions of everyone you're considering, including us. We believe that when you've finished your research, you'll end up here.

Underlying our confidence is our strong heritage. In 1953, our parent, Hammond Lumber Company, began as a small sawmill built on traditional Maine values: honesty, fairness and a commitment to do every job right. Within a few years, Hammond began adding retail stores and steadily grew into one of Maine's largest suppliers of building materials.

In 1987, the company created Maine Pine Log Homes. The logs were at our fingertips, and our factory-direct buying power allowed us to put more standard features in our packages than anyone else could. This combination gave the customer unprecedented flexibility in design choices, product options and service.

Many satisfied customers later, we remain committed to offering the most complete log home packages and the most flexible customer service. We look forward to satisfying you.

Comfort by design

You may find that one of our two dozen existing designs for Maine Pine Log Homes is exactly what you want. If so, great. We'll load the truck and be right over. If you see one that's close, but not quite perfect, we'll help you customize it so that it fits your needs. Or, if you'd like to create your own custom design, we'll turn your ideas and rough sketches into computerized floor plans and elevations. Then, if you need to change this, move that, or add one of these, no problem. We'll keep at it until you have the perfect design to match your dreams. Or even exceed them.

Kiln drying means a tighter home

All my life I've summered here . . . Peg Smith...Brooklin, Maine The eastern white pine used in Maine Pine Log Homes is grown right here in Maine on carefully managed woodlots within a 60-mile radius of our headquarters in Belgrade. Many of these lots are now in their third cutting, which means a minimum amount of forest is being impacted, and we can count on the high quality of the trees. The pros in our award-winning sawmill, some of whom have worked for us for more than 30 years, will select only the best logs for the walls of your home.

The logs are air dried for several months, then finally kiln dried before milling. This extra cautious drying method, which most companies don't use, minimizes warping and shrinkage to give you a tighter, more energy-efficient home.

All the flooring, beams and paneling for Maine Pine Log Homes are also milled by us. They reflect the same commitment to strict quality control and common-sense resource preservation.

Built-in flexibility

The full-length logs allowed us to use the best pieces . . . David & Susan Catino, Revere, MA Will the building package you choose allow you to move a window or door at the last minute? Or adjust to a surprise in the exact dimensions of the foundation? It will if it's from us. To start with, we pre-cut your corner pieces and package them separately so they're easy for you or your contractor to find. Also, the starter pieces for your first course are clearly marked. All your other logs are provided in random lengths, with plenty of excess to allow for changes during construction. This flexibility avoids the costly downtime involved in waiting for replacement logs.

Everything is in it

Your Maine Pine Log Home package is loaded with features, from the expected to the unexpected. The walls consist of 6" x 8" D-shaped tongue & groove logs, 10" lag bolts, and pre-cut hardwood splines. They're sealed with weathertight foam gaskets and caulking. The main floor includes all framing and tongue & groove fir plywood sub-flooring. The second floor, if you order a two-story home, is made of exposed hemlock beams supporting tongue & groove pine decking. The roof system features a pine ceiling supported by exposed beams or rafters or trusses, according to what's called for in your design plan. The roof insulation is fiberglass and/or rigid foam. Added to that are high quality fir plywood sheathing, drip edges, vents, flashing, felt paper, ice & water shield, and 30-year shingles.

Price and quality were our first consideration . . . Paul & Mary Fournier...Bath, MaineNow, that's just for starters. Your package also contains stairways and pine floors. The interior doors are also pine, and the exterior doors are insulated steel or optional fiberglass or wood. All doors are pre-hung and shipped with the necessary hardware. The energy-efficient windows come with low-E insulated glass, screens, and grilles. The inside walls are paneled on both sides with tongue & groove pine, and the closets even include poles and shelves. You'll also find all cabinets and custom-cut countertops for the kitchen. The bathrooms include vanities with molded tops.

Freedom of Choice

How many choices of kitchen cabinets are other companies offering? One, or maybe none? Maine Pine Log Homes offers cabinet lines from more than a dozen top manufacturers, which means you have literally hundreds of possibilities of style, finish and color.

This is truly a company that stands behind its product . . . Dan Doyon...Waterville, MEWant to upgrade your countertop to a solid-surface top, maybe even granite? You can with us. Flooring? Why not solid hardwood or high-quality laminates? Or tile, or vinyl? Or even carpeting? If the Pella windows included in our standard package aren't your preference, consider Andersen or any other quality brand. If you'd prefer Velux roof windows over Roto, fine. Of course, the availability of specific brands may change from time to time, and we may occasionally update and improve the standard materials in our packages, but we can supply virtually any brand and type of product that's on the market. The point is that our access to Hammond Lumber Company's huge inventories, special services and factory-direct buying power gives you flexibility and alternate choices for just about every part of your Maine Pine Log Home, often at no extra cost. And that's true whether you're working with one of our existing designs or are having us create your very own custom design. Just tell us what you like.

Your schedule is our schedule

Everyone was great to work with . . . Paul & Barb Bianchi...Naples, MaineHow many companies will stagger their deliveries to fit your construction schedule, rather than bringing everything to your job site all at once? If your site's in northern New England, we will. This flexible delivery program helps avoid storage problems and it also minimizes exposing your materials to the weather. Also, because we have instant access to the logs and other materials you need, we can prepare and deliver your log home package quickly . . . within one week if you want us to!

And furthermore...

There are solid reasons why we're willing to take on all challengers for the title of "most complete package" and "most flexible company." You can customize an existing Maine Pine Log Home design or create your own. The random-length logs painstakingly dried and milled by our award-winning mill allow you to make last-minute adjustments. The buying power of our building supply operation gives you unlimited product options. And our delivery program is tailored to your schedule.

We wanted quality & integrity, and we got both . . . John Adler...Sanibel, FLMost important, there's the matter of value. Because of our connections, it simply costs us less to manufacture and deliver a log home. Which means we can offer a building package of superior quality and completeness for a very competitive price. And we do.
